The online version of the property surveys are here!

As you are aware, this year the property committee is working on developing a long-range property plan. This plan will be presented to the board of directors and will help set the course for GSMH’s future property needs.  In order to help the committee develop this plan, we want input from GSMH Girl Scouts, Girl Scout parents and Girl Scout volunteers.

There was a paper version released earlier this month, so if you’ve already filled it out and sent it in – thanks!  If not, use one of the appropriate links below to fill yours out.

The deadline to submit the survey is February 15.

Get ready for 25 hours of fun, discovery and friendships as you “Take Action for Yourself” at the Teen Conference! The conference is designed to help you tap [...]]]> IMPORTANT NOTE: The dates of the event have been moved back to April 28 and 29, and the registration deadline has been extended
to April 13!

Get ready for 25 hours of fun, discovery and friendships as you “Take Action for Yourself” at the Teen Conference! The conference is designed to help you tap in to the powerful person you are, as you learn and try new things and have a whole lot of fun with other girls your age from all over the council area.

The conference is open to Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. It begins on Saturday, April 28 at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, April 29. The cost of the conference is $50 per girl and $45 per adult. Cost includes 3 meals, a hotel room with three other people, program supplies and a gift bag for all girls!

Troop leaders can bring their girls to learn along with them, [...]]]> If you are interested in exploring the great outdoors and sleeping under the stars, we’ve got a group for you!

Becky Miller and Mara Teeslink aka “Chiknhead” and “Hershey” are starting a backpacking interest group. This group is for girls and adults alike! Troop leaders can bring their girls to learn along with them, or try it out on their own without the girls. Girls need to be at least in the 7th grade and everyone must weigh at least 100 lbs (so they can carry the packs!). Interested girls and adults will first attend a Shakedown to cover some basics about what equipment is needed, menu planning and a practice hike. There is basic equipment available for use and the destination of the trip will be determined by the group.

Shakedown is planned for September 24, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Finbrooke Program Center Rogersville, MO and the backpacking weekend is planned for October 8-9th somewhere south of I-44! If you are interested, or have any questions please contact Becky Miller at talknwaters@cebridge.net.

There will be one winner selected from each of the following groups: (1) Girl Scout Daisy, Brownie, Junior; (1) Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, Ambassador.
Winning entries may be featured in a GSMH publication. Winners will receive a copy of the new It’s Your Story- Tell It! journey for their age level and a special writer’s kit from the GSMH retail shops.

“The goal of this program is to [...]]]> Thanks to a generous grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, Girl Scouts of the
Missouri Heartland is offering Pemiscot County girls in grades 6-12 the opportunity to help make
a difference in their community by joining a special Girl Scout group called “Challenge and
Change.”

“The goal of this program is to get girls involved as advocates for themselves and their peers,”
says CEO Jennifer M. Orban, “The girls will take action by planning youth services projects for
their community.” Projects could include movie or karaoke nights, holiday parties, and other
activities. “It really depends on what the girls choose to do,” says Orban.

Girls who are interested in joining this group may attend the next meeting on Monday, October
25 at 5:00 pm at Oasis Worship Center in Caruthersville. For more information, please contact

What is FLL?

The purpose of FIRST teams is to engage girls in exciting robotics programs that build leadership [...]]]> GSMH is pleased to announce openings for our inaugural FLL robotics team.  We are looking for six to eight girls in grades 4 through 8 who would be excited to take part in this challenge!

What is FLL?

The purpose of FIRST teams is to engage girls in exciting robotics programs that build leadership skills in science, engineering and technology.  You will learn to build and program a LEGO robot to do tasks on a course and you will compete with your team against other young people and their robots!

What is the commitment?

The commitment is to meet once a week (perhaps more often right before competition) and the ability to travel with us to at least one competition.  The competitions begin in November.  You will also have a chance to put on programs during and after school to show other students what FIRST Lego League and robotics is about!

When and where will we meet?

We will meet once a week at the Hallsville Elementary School in Hallsville, MO.  This is north of Columbia, MO.  We may increase our number of meetings as we get closer to a competition.

How much does it cost?

We are asking that the girls participating pay 20 dollars for the entire program.  You may also need to buy your food on the days of competitions.

I have a friend who wants to do this too but she is not a Girl Scout.  Can she be part of the team?

That is just fine!  Because of all of the different pathways in Girl Scouting, this Series pathway is a great way to participate!

Can my parents help?

We would love to have parent involvement!  Parents are great support when preparing for and traveling to competitions.

How do I sign up?

We would like to have the team in place within a couple of weeks.  Please submit a short essay by Friday, September 24 on why you would like to participate on the GSMH Robo-Girls team to:
