Property Program Surveys!

The online version of the property surveys are here!

As you are aware, this year the property committee is working on developing a long-range property plan. This plan will be presented to the board of directors and will help set the course for GSMH’s future property needs. In order to help the committee develop this plan, we want input from GSMH Girl Scouts, Girl Scout parents and Girl Scout volunteers.

There was a paper version released earlier this month, so if you’ve already filled it out and sent it in – thanks! If not, use one of the appropriate links below to fill yours out.

The deadline to submit the survey is February 15.

Property Surveys

Update: The surveys are now available to be taken online through the new posting: Property Program Surveys.

This year the property committee is working on developing a long-range property plan. This plan will be presented to the board of directors and will help set the course for GSMH’s future property needs. In order to help the committee develop this plan, the property marketing research team wants input from you!

There are three different surveys: Girl Survey, Volunteer Survey, and Parent Survey. You may download the surveys and return them no later than February 15, 2012 via mail, fax, email or drop off at any service center.

Activities to Resume at Latonka Program Center

Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland will resume activities at Latonka Program Center on August 1, 2011. Activities had been suspended during the restoration process from the historic flooding that affected the Lake Wappapello area in May. All facilities at the program center – including the waterfront, challenge course and camping units – will be available to Girl Scout groups and community groups.

Much of the clean-up work required debris removal and hauling large loads of sand and gravel and will be completed by August 1. Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland appreciates the numerous offers from volunteers to help clean-up Latonka from the flooding.

Latonka Program Center, just like all GSMH program properties, can always use clean-up help such as raking leaves, clearing trails, cleaning cabins and bathrooms, etc. Volunteers, girl members and Girl Scout parents that would like to provide this kind of help can come to the Latonka Program Center Clean-up Day on Saturday, August 13. The clean-up day will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Volunteers may want to bring work gloves and tools such as rakes and pruning shears if you have them. Everyone can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the clean-up is finished and GSMH will provide beverages, watermelon and ice cream for dessert. Registration is required for the clean-up day so that we know how many people to expect. Adults will need to attend with the girls to provide supervision. High Waters Cause Suspension of Activities at Camp

Safety is number one priority

With Lake Wappapello’s water level at 35 feet above normal on May 9, Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland (GSMH) is forced to suspend all activities hosted at the Latonka Program Center until the water recedes and clean-up and restoration at the property can be completed. Latonka Program Center is located in Wayne County and home to summer, troop and family activities, as well as council sponsored activities, such as summer resident camp.

“It is unfortunate that the historic flood has created this tough decision,” states Jennifer M. Orban, CEO for GSMH, “but parents depend on us as an organization to provide a safe environment for their girls.”

Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland is offering summer camp at three additional locations, including Cherokee Ridge Program Center, also located in Wayne County. Valarie Moseley, Chief Membership/Leadership Program Officer for GSMH understands the disappointment for the girls saying, “I know that many girls were looking forward to an outdoor camp experience this summer. Therefore, we will be adding additional weeks of resident camp at the Cherokee Ridge facility for those who would like to participate in activities such as horseback riding, aqua sports, and the science behind the solar system.” Go to www.girlscoutsmoheartland.org for more information on the additional sessions added at Cherokee Ridge.
